9th Annual LA 3-D Movie Festival Announces Winners

The Los Angeles 3-D Club (SCSC) is pleased to announce the winners of The 9th Annual LA 3-D Movie Festival, whose mission is to showcase the best independent stereoscopic 3-D filmmaking from around the world. The festival took place on Dec 14th-16th, 2012, at the Downtown Independent Theater in Los Angeles.

Awards were presented at the Closing Night Awards Ceremony on Saturday, Dec 15th. Top films were selected by audience ballot. In addition, a special Director’s Choice prize was also awarded. Award winners were presented with the traditional "Ro-Man" trophy of the LA 3-D Club in an evening ceremony that culminated with the screening of the award winning films.

The Grand Prize Award winner was The Heart’s Eye View a romantic fantasy about finding love in the real world. Producer/Cinematographer/Editor James M. LeGoy and Director/Producer/Writer Gerald Emerick accepted the Gold Ro-Man award, a Sony Vegas Pro 12 editing suite featuring stereoscopic workflow from Sony Creative Software, a new Fujifilm Finepix Real 3-D W3 digital camera from Fujifilm, and a Stereoscopic Alignment Chart from Goat and Yeti.

Second Place Award went to the music video All Is Not Lost, directed collaboratively by the rock band OK Go, the Pilobolus dance company, and Director/Choreographer Trish Sie, with stereography by 3-D Director Eric Kurland. Produced by Shirley Moyers. Depicting a gravity defying human kaleidoscope, this Grammy nominated music video picked up the Ro-Man silver award. The filmmakers also received a Sony Vegas Pro 12 editing suite from Sony Creative Software.

Third Place Award was presented to Tarang, a 3-D video collage of a classical Indian Odissi dance created at Texas A&M University by students Shyam Kannapurakkaran, Jonny Greenwald, and Ganesh Rao. In addition to the Ro-Man bronze award, the filmmakers also received a Sony Vegas Pro 12 editing suite from Sony Creative Software.

Scottish filmmaker Andrew Murchie was awarded a special Director’s Choice Award for his body of work, which included four films selected for the festival - ATM, a short romantic comedy about a girl, a boy, and a cupcake; Cycle 3D, about a motorcycle rider who suffers an accident; The Collection, a horror short about an obsessed college professor; and Hidden, a hard-hitting cop drama. Murchie received a Sony Vegas Pro 12 editing suite from Sony Creative Software.

The LA 3-D Club (Stereo Club of Southern California) was established in 1955 by dedicated stereo photographers and 3-D filmmakers who have continued their work today with the Annual LA 3-D Film Festival at the Downtown Independent Theater, Los Angeles' premiere venue for screening independent film and video.
